Dr. Hardie's research interests include investigating the underlying etiology and treatment of perianal fistula in dogs, developing new techniques for ureteral implantation for kidney transplantation in cats, and the use of somatostatin for treatment of chylothorax in cats and dogs.

Dr. Hardie's responsibilities include clinical service (soft tissue surgery) within the veterinary teaching hospital, training of surgical residents, clinical teaching of fourth year veterinary students, didactic lectures on fundamentals of surgery and gastrointestinal surgery for second and third year veterinary students, course coordinator for third year surgical training course, and continuing education for practicing veterinarians.

Dr. Hardie's clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, reconstructive surgery, and urogenital surgery.
