Streptococcal Zoonoses

 Introduction

"A 3-year-old Black Labrador Retriever is presented to its veterinarian at the request of the owner's physician. It seems that the husband, wife and 2 children in the household have suffered recurrent bouts of "strept throat." Could the dog be to blame?"

This is a common question, but the answer is less than straightforward. This section of the tutorial will examine the evidence for and against the role of dogs as sources of Group A Streptococcus. It also includes information on other zoonotic strains of Streptococcus.
