 Wisconsin Residency Information

Residency

The majority of the 80 positions available in each professional class are reserved for Wisconsin residents. While the exact number of of nonresidents admitted each year will be determined annually, no more than 20 nonresident applicants will be admitted in any one year. The UW-Madison Residence Counselor's Office determines residence status for tuition purposes. This decision is based on information applicants provide in their application. The SVM will rely on the resident classification determined by the Resident Counselor's Office.

Some students may be considered a resident of more than one state. If you feel you may qualify for dual residency status, a resident of Wisconsin and another state please contact our school directly indicating that you should be considered a resident in the admissions process and may be exempt from non-resident tuition.

Obtaining Wisconsin Residency

Applicants who are appealing their residency at the time of application, may be offered admission contingent on being a Wisconsin resident at the time of registration. If such applicants are unable to prove Wisconsin resident status at registration, the offer of admission will be rescinded.
